 FREE IN-STORE PERFORMANCE
 David Olney

One Tough Club Legendary Nashville musician DAVID OLNEY will perform here TODAY, Wednesday, November 14th, at 5:00, on his way to a party gig that he's playing nearby! David's one of those guys you may have heard of, via more popular musicians (Emmylou Harris and Steve Earle have covered his songs, among others). The Houston Press described him well when they wrote, "...Olney stands out like a jalapeño in a bowl of vanilla pudding in Nashville, where he lives, and throughout an 18-album career has stubbornly gone his own way, making brilliant, unheralded albums as artists from Linda Ronstadt to bluegrass king Del McCoury record his songs." We're lucky to be in his company and need you to help us make him feel welcome!
Advance reservations are required for that evening's HOUSE CONCERT (which only holds ~ 30 people!)- Contact: 813-837-6572 or gshello@tampabay.rr.com.

 FRIENDS IN NEED
 A Worthy Cause

One of the finest record stores in the Northeast- Looney Tunes in West Babylon, New York- was destroyed by fire last August. Fortunately no one was hurt but the store was all but lost. Not to be deterred or to just decide to give up, owner Karl Jr. is rising from the ashes like the proverbial phoenix. I can't imagine what we would do if we lost Vinyl Fever, but hope that all the fine folks and longtime supporters would help us out just like so many are doing for Looney Tunes. Record stores and friends from all over the country have donated rare, collectible and autographed items from their own collections and inventories to auction off on eBay to raise funds for Karl to rebuild. Take a look at all the rock n' roll memorabilia and more details by clicking here (ALL proceeds go toward the rebuilding):

 AMERICA UNCHAINED!
 Saturday, November 17th

Unchained! The Tampa Independent Business Alliance (TIBA) urges everyone to shop only at locally owned independent businesses on the Saturday before Thanksgiving as part of the 4th annual observance of America Unchained! highlighting the significant economic impact of spending decisions.

As in previous years, the focus is the findings of recent case studies illustrating that local retailers return more economic value to the community than chain retailers. Repeated studies confirm that over 3 times as much local economic activity results from spending at local stores versus national chains. Applying the findings to 2006 sales tax figures supplied by the Florida Department of Revenue, there could be an extra $19 million put into our local economy if all spending on taxable sales in Hillsborough County was with locally owned businesses and none with national chains for just one average November day. "The Saturday before Black Friday is intentionally chosen for this reminder, before we are inundated with advertising slicks from national chains," said Carla Jimenez, President of TIBA and co-owner of Inkwood Books.

"While every dollar spent locally helps all year long, the holidays are a perfect time to reflect on how small everyday acts have a big impact on our lives. As we give thanks and give gifts, we really appreciate the service, knowledge, and selection of local merchants, while giving ourselves the gift of a personal shopping experience in a human-scaled, serene setting," said Jimenez.

Many TIBA member businesses (including Vinyl Fever) are offering special discounts to celebrate America Unchained, making it a great time for a head start on holiday shopping. " The full list of special offers can be seen online at tibatampa.org.

Robert and Allison Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Raising Sand
From its conceptual stages, the mere idea of Raising Sand held infinite fascination for both its creators and those around them. On the surface, Robert and Alison have seemingly little in common, but a deeper dig reveals an elemental understanding flowed between them, waiting to be tapped...and this collaboration has brought us to Raising Sand.

Prefuse 73 - Preparations
By focusing on the foundation of his creative process and less on the intricacies of his trademark editing and chopping magic, Guillermo Scott Heron has emerged with an album that will give fans a subtle taste of every Prefuse 73 record that has come before and will give the haters a deserved shake-up.

Jose Gonzalez - In Our Nature
NPR "Quietly powerful" Rolling Stone "Subtly hypnotic"
José Gonzalez's sophomore album sees Jose coming into his own as a songwriter, with songs that are as instantly accessible as they are brimming with darkness and brooding intensity.

Marissa Nadler - Songs III: Bird On The Water
... Songs III: Bird on the Water is among the most arresting recordings of 2007 thus far and sets a new high-water mark for this seemingly limitless songwriter. - Allmusic.com
... Nadler's songs feature ghostly vocals, carefully wrought lyrics, and subtle acoustic arrangements- imagine Leonard Cohen singing soprano. - Filter Magazine
... Nadler writes songs that spin tales of folklore and witchcraft, and she performs them in a silken soprano. - Interview Magazine
... one of the most focused and engaging singer- songwriter releases so far this year. - Pitchfork

Grizzly Bear - Friend
Friend is a testament to what Grizzly Bear has become in its 3 year history - a well loved, sonically adventurous and adaptable pop band, with honey- sweet four part harmonies, and an unforgettable live show.

 THIS WEEK'S FEATURE: THE HIVES

The Hives THIS WEEK'S FEATURE: THE HIVES THE HIVES- curators of that perfectly balanced color scheme- have been away far too long. They are now ready to bring back the rock, only more so. It is well- known that America's favorite band is The Hives, and now, emerging from Sweden's impeccable sense of everything is their newest: THE BLACK AND WHITE ALBUM. Earlier this year, our five Hives traveled to Oxford, Mississippi to collaborate with producer Dennis Herring, to return "the riff" to rock. Pharrell Williams produced two of the stylish album's tracks for a little Sweden-meets-Virginia mash-up. Check out a few tracks in our pop-up jukebox at vinylfevertampa .com
