Dreaming of a steel guitar engagement?
 (oh what blessed company!)

 IN-STORE PERFORMANCES
 From Hither and Yon

colorful! Presidents (in spirit) of Nashville's Flaming Lips fanclub, DE NOVO DAHL will be performing a FREE set at Vinyl Fever at 2:00 on Saturday, October 20th, prior to their gig opening for HOT HOT HEAT later that evening. We will have .99 cent DE NOVO DAHL EPs to give away (while supplies last, of course) and we'd be willing to bet the band would even autograph them if you ask nicely (and they have time).

DON'T MISS THIS: JUSTIN TOWNES EARLE (can you guess whose kid he is and who he's named after?) will be playing at Skipper' s Smokehouse on Tuesday, 10/23 (Happy Birthday Helena!) and he will be treating us to a preview at 5:30 that night. Justin's talent goes beyond his pedigree. Listen here and we're sure you will agree.

Tampa's ZILLIONAIRE will rock us (again) with their "heavy mellow sounds" on Sunday, November 4th, to celebrate the release of their new CD. This will be the official all ages cd release party!

 OCTOBER LISTENING POST FEATURES
 C'Mon Feel the Noise

Thurston Thurston Moore
Trees Outside the Academy
"Man does not live by feedback alone, even Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth. The striking thing about the guitarist's first solo album since 1995's Psychic Hearts -- solo, as in, devoted to songs instead of prolonged amp death -- is not that he has shed the shredding for acoustic Om folk. It is the melodic fiber in his writing and drone-tenor singing. Where there is voltage, it is evocative, not assaulting. Where there is none, his picking and their vocal blend is warm and full. There is high-speed dirt and driving psychedelia, but the most avant-garde quality of this record is its gentle assertion of detail -- the way you can hear each leaf blowing on every tree." - David Fricke (Rolling Stone)

Various Artists
Goin Home: A Tribute to Fats Domino
Icons from the world of rock, blues, reggae and country music have joined together to salute the legendary "Fat Man" on this double CD set, Goin' Home: A Tribute to Fats Domino. This stellar tribute to one of the cornerstones of rock n' roll music will help raise desperately needed funds, earmarked for instruments to be donated to New Orleans' public school children as well as the development of a community center in the ravaged lower 9th Ward, amongst other community related programs, through the Tipitina's Foundation.

Iron and Wine
The Shepherd's Dog
"The best Iron & Wine record to date." - Harp

Polyphonic Spree
Live From Austin Texas
Tim DeLaughter and company's 2004 Austin City Limits performance.

Mary Gauthier
Between Daylight & Dark
In the case of Mary Gauthier, four words are worth a thousand pictures. Between Daylight and Dark, her new album, finds her aiming her compass at the sky and searching for home. It is from longing for home that this group of songs has emerged, and they fill Gauthier's new album with both hope and anguish and with faith as well as fear. This follow up to her Lost Highway debut (Mercy Now) is produced by Joe Henry and features Van Dyke Parks, Greg Leisz and an A- list backing band.
