FREE IN-STORE PERFORMANCES
From All Around The World
TIM MULLALLY has played in numerous
popular
area
bands for the past 15 years and will perform a
solo,
acoustic set at Vinyl Fever on Sunday afternoon,
September
16th. More details forthcoming, as the date gets
nearer.
The performance by
Giddy-Up, Helicopter! has been
RESCHEDULED now for Saturday night,
September 22nd at 9:30 (after hours). In their
own
words:
giddy-up, helicopter! writes murder ballads, living
room music with a front porch, LOUD, depressing
quality. enjoy and grab a tissue (or a beer). Curtis Ross from The Tampa
Tribune called their new full length record, "One of the
best albums - not just local albums - of 2007."
Free
admission (as always).
We're honored to be hosting Scotland's Battlefield
Band on Sunday, October 7th- the day after their
State
Theater gig.
Under their banner Forward with Scotland's
Past,
Battlefield Band
has been performing on the
international scene for more than three decades,
inspired by their rich heritage of Celtic music and fired
by the strength of the modern Scottish cultural scene.
The band, who pioneered the integration of bagpipes
with fiddle, keyboards, guitar and voice, mix old songs
with newer, self-penned material, playing them on a
unique fusion of ancient and modern instruments:
bagpipes, synthesizers, fiddles, guitars, cittern, bass,
whistles, and bouzouki.
Named after the Glasgow suburb of Battlefield, where
the group was formed by four student friends,
Battlefield Band has broken down
barriers
and pioneered new directions. Their music is angry,
joyful,
raucous,
contemplative and, most importantly,
accessible to all.

SEPTEMBER FEATURES
NEW and NOW on our listening posts -
Architecture In Helsinki* Places Like
This
This six-piece outfit of musical chameleons has
developed a large, loyal fan base and a reputation for
sensational live shows. They've hit the ground
running
with their third record - ten songs fizzing with
electrical
currents, channeling calypso rhythms and tropical
flavors with lashings of percussion a-go-go. Pop
effervescence hasn't sounded this fresh in ages.
Minus The Bear* Planet Of Ice
"Minus The Bear's brightly appealing indie-pop may
be dispensed with remarkable technical prowess --
complete with precise guitar work and complex time
changes -- but it also benefits from the band's sweetly
personal lyrics and flair for writing power-pop
hooks. Planet of Ice maintains an organic quality that
allows the songs' innate catchiness to shine through" -
- *NPR WORLD CAFE*
Okkervil River* The Stage Names
Riddled with characters real and fake, with the relics
of high culture and the crumpled up trash of low
culture, *The Stage Names* is a cinemascopic take
on the meaning of entertainment in the modern world.
Reverberant with echoes of Motown snap and girl
group pop, redolent with ripe whiffs of dirty rock 'n' roll,
shining with the shimmy of Bo Diddley, the shimmer
of the Velvets, the swagger of the Faces, and with a
glittery sprinkling of cheap perfume to disguise the
stink, *The Stage Names* is a relentlessly paced and
ruthlessly thrilling journey.
Bob Marley and the Wailers* Roots, Rock,
Remixed
"Retains the songs and the spirit of the original
Wailers - a great dance party record." - Chris
Blackwell (Founder, Island Records)
M.I.A.* Kala
"There are bird calls, Indian drummers, rapping
Aboriginal children and eerie glitch-and-grind beats
that'd make Thom Yorke puke with envy." - Rolling
Stone
