This made our week (month! year?!?!):
We
acquired the remaining record collection (several
thousand records) of Vinyl
Fever's first Manager- the Mann who developed
our original location on Fletcher in 1981! This guy
(who
many of you know) has spent the better part of the
past 30 years in record stores and, though he had
been selling off his records the past several years,
what remained was the cream of the crop! Mostly
Jazz, Blues and both
classic and obscure
R&B,
much of the
vinyl is pristine. This is exactly the kind of
once-every-so-many-years opportunities
that makes Vinyl Fever THE most fun place to work
and shop in Tampa! We're putting this collection
out a
box of ~ 120 at a time and there are already people
coming in daily, hoping for dibs. Ya know, even
though we could often get more money for records like
these on eBay, we keep them in-house because
we
like selling them to real, live people with whom we can
interact. We like having the kind of quality store
where
you can walk in and be excited about finding sides that
you might never be able to actually see and feel
anywhere else. We suggest that
if
you love records and the kind of record store
experience I just described, this is a good time of year
to make it
out here. See you in the racks!

Listening Post Features for May
Hang on to our post
Tokyo Police Club - Elephant Shell
Elephant Shell encapsulates everything about
the manic TPC live experience-soaring guitar
signatures and keyboard figures, driving backbeats
and irresistible singalongs-and finds these young
protagonists ably adapting their energy into more
subdued structures before the record comes to an all-
too-early halt.
A.A. Bondy - American Hearts
American Hearts was recorded at a barn in upstate
NY but it is not hard to recognize Bondy's influence
from his home state of Alabama. Now signed with Fat
Possum Records and
re-releasing this solo/debu,t A.A. Bondy will be touring
throughout 2008 promoting American Hearts and
opening it to a wider audience.
Hayden - In Field & Town
Hayden was brought into the spotlight with his MTV
hit "Bad As They Seem". Staying busy with touring and
a slew of singles, EPs, and a popular cut on the Trees
Lounge movie soundtrack, Hayden managed to build
a cult-like status among his fans throughout the rest
of the 90s. His critically acclaimed, fifth full-length
studio album, In Field & Town, was recorded and
produced by Hayden in his home studios in Ontario,
Canada, and has been heralded as the
album of his career since its Canadian release in
January on his own Hardwood Records.
Jamie Lidell - Jim
Recorded in Berlin, Los Angeles and Paris, Jim takes
even further what was started with Multiply, finding the
balance between the spontaneous creativity of his raw
ideas and the careful craft and polish of a great
record. Jim will switch you on in the morning, move
you on the dance-floor and take you down in the small
hours. It's a bold, promiscuously diverse album,
mixing up gospel grooves, sweetly sung and fiercely
passionate soul, delicately moving ballads, thumping
early R&B, synthed-up disco, and even a touch
of "hillbilly funk". "I haven't tried to hide the influences,"
says Jamie Lidell. "This is the music I love."
The Kooks - Konk
The Kooks are back with their eagerly anticipated
sophomore album, Konk- the stunning follow-up to
their breakout debut, Inside In / Inside Out. The Kooks
built a solid and
credible fanbase in the US and have quickly come to
be
regarded as a classic song-writing outfit, simply
because they understand what makes pop music
great. Konk demonstrates how they have
upped their
game with this collection of dynamic new songs.
Produced by Tony Hoffer (Inside In/Inside Out; Dave
Gahan, Supergrass, Beck).
