JJ Grey Solo Acoustic
Saturday, Feb 23, 2008 5:00 In between Mofro gigs at Skipper's (that Friday and Saturday night), JJ Grey graciously accepted our invitation to play here on Saturday, 2/23 for a 40 minute set of our own. He also hung out with the crowd of ~ 50, signing autographs and talking music and wildlife and made sure everyone was pleased. The guy's a true gent! J.J. Grey doesn't need pyrotechnics or an elaborate stage show to captivate an audience. All he needs is a microphone, a harmonica and a guitar or two and he'll pull the crowd straight into his world of dirty, authentic Southern grooves and deep fried soul. His lyrics are reminiscent of the great southern poets- fiercely personal, universal, and political without a hint of superiority or preachiness.
