we like being cheap and used

Our daily re-stocking of new CDs helps keep our stores dynamic and vibrant. But it's our daily purchasing of used CDs, records and DVDs that differentiates us from the chains. There is ALWAYS an expert buyer available at Vinyl Fever Tampa. We buy all sorts of music-related items, including CDs, records, DVDs, tapes, videos and unusual accessories. No collection is too large or too small for us to consider. We may even travel to your location to appraise a large collection.

Vinyl Fever Tampa

the ballad of vinyl fever tampa

Sam and Dave met as Ohio State students in the mid-1970's. They promoted concerts for The University, dropped out and lived an idealistic, bohemian lifestyle in Columbus, Ohio with the numerous stray dogs they took in off the streets. As the independent music scene (remember "new wave"?) grew in the late 70's they pooled their personal record collections, music knowledge and a few hundred bucks to open Singing Dog Records in 1978. Through their store they met Mike—a transplanted Chicagoan, managing a similar store in Cleveland. Mike had lived in Tampa, FL, was eager to return, joined Sam & Dave's team and helped to open Vinyl Fever Tampa in 1981. The Tallahassee store soon followed.

Dave's brother, Lee, followed in his brother's footsteps, attending Ohio State University in 1981 and majoring in "record store." Lee had been transferred to Tallahassee in October 1984, as temporary help and stayed there for more than 10 years. Vinyl Fever Tampa has since split from their once related stores and is managed by Lee and an experienced crew of music aficionados. That's our story and we're sticking to it.
